Along the way, I’ve founded companies, developed award-winning CBD products, raised more than $5 million in investment capital, and generated over $10 million in CBD product sales.
But my entrepreneurial journey started long before CBD became an industry.
AlsoDan also serves as Chief Commercial Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Perpetua Bioscience, bringing additional experience in commercial strategy, plant biotechnology, and business development.
Some of my earliest business adventures involved traveling with the Grateful Dead, making and selling my own glass art, and eventually opening several smoke shops called A Piece Full Place.
I’ve always loved creating things, connecting with people, and turning ideas into businesses. That passion eventually led me into the hemp and cannabis industries.
I founded Imbue Botanicals, where I personally formulated our award-winning cannabinoid products. More than 10 years later, the company is still in business, with products reaching over 500 pharmacy shelves.
I also founded Hempshire Group, a publicly traded hemp company, and Mountain Smokes, a hemp-based alternative to traditional cigarettes.
I’ve been fortunate to build businesses, bring products to market, raise millions in capital, and work with some incredible people along the way. But for me, the excitement has always come from creating something new.
Here’s something about me that hasn’t changed in decades. One of my favorite things in the world has always been enjoying a great cup of coffee while smoking a joint.
There’s just something about that ritual I’ve always loved. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, the moment to slow down, and the simple pleasure of enjoying two plants that have been part of my life for years.
After spending decades working with cannabis and cannabinoids, I began thinking about bringing those two worlds together in a different way.

The opportunity to work with exceptional Costa Rican coffee and combine it with innovative CBD infusion technology brought together two things I’m genuinely passionate about.
My goal with Balance Beans is simple: make outstanding coffee, create something different, and build a company that respects both the people and the environment behind every cup.
That means pursuing responsible sourcing, thoughtful packaging, and a commitment to giving back as the business grows.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from a lifetime of entrepreneurship, it’s that success isn’t just about how much money you make or how many companies you build.
